Celebrate Spring

Clove Lakes Park

Clove Lakes Park

Yesterday marked Celebrate Spring Day for my friends and I. Every year, we take the first warm day of the season and decide to do some warm weather activities. This year we decided to wake up early, grab some sandwiches and head to the park for a picnic.

We sat by the lake and ate our sandwiches in the brisk weather and as it started getting chillier, Kat took out her American Girl sleeping bag to use for warmth.

It was beautiful in the sun as we walked around reminiscing about old times and how small the world is due to connections of both Kat and Margaret.

Soon Margaret had to head to work and Kat and I decided to rollerblade for a few minutes. Let's preface for a second. I don't know how to rollerblade or to ice skate so being on wheels is definitely a challenge for me. I successfully rollerbladed all by myself down the gravel of the park and back around and couldn't be happier that I was learning something new and will get better. I love learning new things and challenging myself.

Off the beaten path

We picked up Ben after and headed toward the Greenbelt for hiking. It was one of my first times hiking as well. As a child I was never really active or liked nature to much but as I've gotten older, there isn't anything I don't want to try and explore.

We took all sorts of trails and found out that Staten Island is beautiful. There were many trails and each were many miles long with the blue trail being up to 12 miles one way. Kat and I promised to try that trail one day making it a 24 mile hike. It will be an adventure.

We came across a haunted spot where an old house used to reside. It's nothing but concrete slabs now and a staircase but the wooden sign on the tree warned us about ghostly residents and to beware. We saw no ghosts here but I'm sure at night it's a bit spookier.

We continued on and Kat found a staff to use for the rest of the journey. We attempted to find Moses Mountain but the sun was setting and we decided to head on back to where we started. On the way we found some ginormous trees that were knocked down and the roots that were pulled up with them. We got our feet really muddy trying to walk around the giant mud puddles but falling in here and there. Eventually we found our way back keeping our spirits up by playing a silly letter game and singing old songs from our grammar school and high school days.

I'm very excited for the rest of the season to begin!
